On December 19, 2003, my children went to school with bags full of Eggnog and Pumpkin Spice scented soy candles (At that time Eggnog and Pumpkin Pie Spice were my only aromas). They were to give them to their teachers as traditional holiday gifts. Last year we had given peppermint hot chocolate mix, and this seemed like an interesting, unique new idea. Soon educators requested refills for their candle jars. My friends also found my creations captivating and were inquiring about purchasing them. Due to the popularity of my candles, I began to acquire more scents such as French Vanilla Crunch, Ginger Peach, Ice Cream Parlor, Rose Dew Drops, Love Spell, and Peppermint Twist. Because I have worked with fragrance for several years, I have also blended my own scents based on my knowledge of public preference. Only when people began to offer money for my handiwork did I consider this hobby a profession. The more I contemplated the idea of marketing my candles, the more excited I became! Soon I was taking entrepreneur classes and going to business meetings. During this time I discovered the many benefits of soy candles. Finally I received a contract and started a website. No matter how far I go with this craft, I will remember how it started -- as modest rewards for my children's teachers! - Claire
